Tragedy and sweethearts go together like spines on a hedgehog. Like Rick’s Bar in “Casablanca”, Old Joe’s Barroom is a haven for those on a journey and with a tale to tell. Music publisher Irving Mills persuaded the U.S. Supreme Court that Joe Primrose had written the song, a 1928 a hit for Louis Armstrong, despite evidence of its antiquity.  Who was Joe Primrose? A pseudonym for Irving Mills. Andy’s finely brushed percussion lifts the mood (as ever).
